Who We Are

Our church is led by Rev. Barry Thomas, who is supported by an incredible team of pastors and leaders. Here at Westway Community Church, we believe that Jesus gave His own life for us so that today we live a Gospel Centred, Christ Focused, Mission Determined lifestyle that
points others lovingly to Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

We seek to create an environment where people from all walks of life can

come together to worship, learn and grow in their faith, and where

everyone feels welcomed and like a valued member of our family.

What We Believe

We believe that the Bible is God's inspired Word and our final authority for faith and life. We believe that salvation is found through faith in Jesus Christ alone, who died for our sins and rose again to give us new life. We believe in the importance of personal faith, believer's baptism by immersion, prayer, worship, discipleship and sharing the Gospel with others.

Where It All Began

For 66 years, Westway Community Church has been part of the story of the
western suburbs of Gqeberha, faithfully serving generations of families while sharing the
hope of Christ with our community.
Our journey began in 1958 when George Mellitchey and Ray Daddy started a small Sunday
School in Ray's garage in Van der Stel Street, Kabega Park. From these humble beginnings, God grew a church family that continues to impact lives today.
Westway Community Church was officially constituted in 1960 with 19 foundation members, and within a year the congregation had built its first church home — now our Minor Hall. As the church grew, so did its ministries, facilities and reach into the community.
Many cherished features of Westway remain from those early years. The trees planted by Ray Daddy more than 50 years ago still welcome worshippers through our gates, while Jacob's Ladder at our entrance remains a symbol of our history and heritage.
Through the decades, God has faithfully provided leaders for every season of ministry, guiding Westway through times of growth, change, and community impact. Ministries such as Salem Preschool and our small group network have become an important part of our story.
Today, under the leadership of Rev Barry Thomas, Westway continues to build on the foundation
laid by those who came before us.
From a garage in Van der Stel Street to a thriving church family serving Gqeberha and beyond, our story is ultimately one of God's faithfulness.
And by His grace, the best chapters are still ahead.
